This is apparently a common bird but i hardly see it. Every Sunday this female Koel and her mate come to my garden to eat the snails. I always go after them with my camera but i can never get a good shot. Last Sunday i caught her just outside the bay window. She was being bothered by a crow who appeared to be wooing her.
Another frequent visitor to our household. This rat snake comes for our toads. The toads are the size of my feet (size11) and are quite docile creatures. This 8 foot snake came by and caught one of them. My mother feeling sorry for the toad let the dog loose which chased the snake away. Amazingly the toad survived after being...in that position.

poor toad..i liked having them around the garden...ey were soo fat n cute..
maybe v shud keep em as pets..i always wanted to..n call it gemba!..or heba!
its ok he got away. but i havnt seen them around. the snake is still in the neighbourhood tho
both shots are uber nice...would have to dispute the female koel as being described as a rare bird though:)..

The bird is the female bird of the Kokoo Bird (Koha in Sinhala).It is a very common bird in SL.
oh well its hard to see around my place. i will change it now
the koel aka koha eats snails in your garden ? thats unusual. do they crack the shells like the coucal ? you should try to get some pics of this.
the crow in question was probably its foster parent attempting to show affection or even feed it.
and that is not a grass snake. it is a rat snake, the famous garandiya ! they love gembas, meeyas and eggs and baby birds.

Wow, that picture of the snake is scary - I hate snakes. I like the one of the bird though. You might accuse me of having an overactive imagination, but doesn't he have quite an intelligent expression on his face? Like he's just realised something. Or maybe all birds tilt the heads that way. I wouldn't know, I've not really paid much attention.
